The trip was a project-related funding measure within the framework of the market development program for small and medium-sized enterprises from Germany (SMEs). The aim of the project is to support German companies from the music and event industry in their foreign trade activities to open up the Colombian sales market.

Why Colombia?

The music industry and Colombia's cultural and creative industries have been stronger than traditionally strong products such as coffee for several years. The Colombian Institute of Economic Statistics, DANE, reported a 33% increase in artistic services in 2021. Revenue from music sales has increased steadily since 2014, largely due to the growth of streaming. The Colombian Ministry of Culture has promoted the development of a national music plan throughout Colombia. This plan aims to support the music industry and culture through education and training, provision of instruments and resources, business support, and the development of distribution networks. As members of the "Ciudades Creativas de la Música de la UNESCO" association, the major cities of Bogotá and Medellín are important locations for holding major international events, trade fairs and shows. In this respect, the Colombian capital is the first port of call for foreign direct investment in the cultural and music industries in Latin America, ahead of cities such as São Paulo or Buenos Aires. In Colombia, revenues from live music alone amount to around EUR 48 million. Of this, 59 % of revenues are concentrated in Bogotá. In addition, 79 % of the national value added in the phonographic industry is generated here.
